MAGDANCE: art + dance: January 22 to April 17, 2011
MAGDANCE continues a long and successful history of collaborations between the MacKenzie Art Gallery and NDH. Over the past twenty-five years, the Gallery has been host to a number of remarkable performances, both on its theatre stage and in its exhibition spaces, and many of these performances have been presented in response to MacKenzie exhibitions. The performance series offers an opportunity to reflect on the deeper connections between dance and visual art. By inserting the “black box” of the dance studio into the “white cube” of the gallery, the place of the art viewer/dance spectator is brought into question. This project also marks the next installment in the MacKenzie’s series of artist engagements with the permanent collection.
